A ra\u00edz de la pandemia COVID-19 el a\u00f1o 2020, las Instituciones de Educaci\u00f3n Superior (IES) se ven forzadas a realizar un proceso de transformaci\u00f3n y cambios. A nivel del \u00e1mbito de educaci\u00f3n, se puede definir que solo el 20 % de las instituciones contaban con un plan de contingencia viable que respondiera a este tipo de situaciones, la educaci\u00f3n virtual dejo de ser una opci\u00f3n para convertirse en el plan de continuidad acad\u00e9mica de las IES.<\/p>\n

A lo largo de \u00c1merica Latina y Norte \u00c1merica diversas instituciones en respuesta inmediata a esta necesidad emergente crean un sitio de continuidad acad\u00e9mica, tal como su nombre lo indica estos sitios de continuidad acad\u00e9mica han sido dise\u00f1ados con una amplia gama de recursos para apoyar las actividades de aprendizaje, ense\u00f1anza e investigaci\u00f3n en modalidad virtual, que, aunque no est\u00e1n catalogados como Centros de ense\u00f1anza aprendizaje, realizan varias de estas funciones.<\/p>\n

El proyecto PROF XXI, como parte de su seguimiento en cuanto al desarrollo de CEA a nivel de Latinoam\u00e9rica realiza un mapeo global de los 144 sitios identificados de continuidad acad\u00e9mica que han sido activados a ra\u00edz de la emergencia mundial COVID-19.<\/p>\n
